Mint alternative

A Mint alternative that never asks for your bank login.

Mint shut down in March 2024. If you miss seeing where your money goes each month, TallyMsg gives you that picture without syncing a bank account. Text your expenses in Telegram or WhatsApp and it does the sorting.

What Mint users usually want back

The parts of Mint people relied on day to day, and how TallyMsg covers each one.

Automatic categories

Every expense is sorted into one of 11 categories by AI the moment you send it.

A clear monthly picture

Spending by category, top merchants, and month over month changes on the web dashboard, or /summary in the chat.

Category budgets

Set a monthly limit per category. On Starter and Pro, the chat warns you as you get close.

Subscription spotting

Recurring charges and repeat habits are detected and listed for you on the Pro plan.

Free to start

Mint cost nothing, and neither does starting here. The Free plan needs no card.

The honest difference: you log it, not your bank

Mint pulled transactions from your bank automatically. TallyMsg does not connect to banks at all, so each expense arrives because you sent it: a quick text like “chipotle 14.25”, a photo of a receipt, or a short voice note.

That costs a few seconds per purchase, and it changes how you relate to your money. You notice spending in the moment you send it, not weeks later in a monthly email. Your bank credentials never leave your bank, and the table below shows what else changes when the bank is out of the loop.

FAQ

Questions from former Mint users

What happened to Mint?

Intuit shut down Mint in March 2024 and pointed its users to Credit Karma. Many former Mint users are still looking for a simple way to see their spending by category each month.

Can I import my Mint data into TallyMsg?

Not at the moment. TallyMsg starts fresh from your first message. Most people find a clean start easier than migrating years of old categories, and within a few weeks the dashboard has a full picture again.

Does TallyMsg connect to my bank like Mint did?

No, and that is deliberate. TallyMsg never asks for bank logins or card details. You send each expense as a text, a receipt photo, or a voice note, which takes a few seconds and means cash spending is included too.

Does TallyMsg have budgets like Mint?

Yes. Set a monthly limit for any category on the Budgets page or with the /budget command. On Starter and Pro, once you pass 80% of a limit, the confirmation for each new expense in that category shows how much is left.

Is TallyMsg a free Mint alternative?

Yes, you can start free. The Free plan covers 5 expenses a day and 100 a month, plus 5 receipt scans and 5 voice notes a month. Paid plans remove the limits: Starter is $4.99 a month or $39 a year, and Pro is $8.99 a month or $69 a year.
