Getting Started

Is TallyMsg free to use?

Yes. TallyMsg has a free plan that lets you log up to 5 expenses per day and 100 per month via Telegram or WhatsApp, with no credit card required. The free plan includes the web dashboard, category breakdowns, and 3 months of transaction history. Paid plans remove message limits and unlock features like receipt scanning, budget alerts, and unlimited history.

How do I get started with TallyMsg?

Sign up at tallymsg.app with your email address. Once your account is created, connect your Telegram or WhatsApp account by following the on-screen steps. It takes about 30 seconds. After linking your messaging account, send your first expense to TallyMsg Bot and it will be logged instantly.

Do I need to download an app?

No. TallyMsg works entirely inside Telegram and WhatsApp, which you already have on your phone. There is nothing extra to install. The web dashboard at tallymsg.app gives you full access to spending charts, reports, and settings from any browser.

How do I connect my Telegram or WhatsApp account?

After signing up, go to Settings in your TallyMsg dashboard and follow the connection steps for Telegram or WhatsApp. For Telegram, search for @TallyMsgBot and send a start command. For WhatsApp, scan the QR code shown in the dashboard. Both channels can be linked to the same account at the same time.

What devices can I use TallyMsg on?

TallyMsg works on any device that runs Telegram or WhatsApp. You log expenses from your phone inside your messaging app, and the web dashboard at tallymsg.app is fully mobile-responsive, so you can view reports and manage settings on a phone, tablet, or desktop browser.

Features

How does expense logging work?

Send a plain text message to TallyMsg Bot describing what you spent, for example 'spent 32 at Carrefour food' or 'Uber 12.50'. The AI reads your message, identifies the amount, merchant, and category, and logs the transaction in under 2 seconds. You receive a confirmation reply immediately.

What types of expenses can I log?

Text expense logging is available on all plans including Free. Starter and above add receipt image scanning: photograph a receipt and send it to the bot. Pro users can also log expenses by voice note. All three input methods work on both Telegram and WhatsApp.

What expense categories does TallyMsg support?

TallyMsg includes 9 built-in categories: Food & Dining, Transport, Health, Entertainment, Shopping, Utilities, Subscriptions, Work & Education, and Other. The AI assigns the most appropriate category automatically based on your message. Pro users can also create custom categories to match their personal spending habits.

How do budget alerts work?

Set a monthly spending limit for any category on the Budgets page in your dashboard. TallyMsg monitors your running total and sends you an alert via Telegram or WhatsApp when you approach or exceed the limit. Alerts arrive directly in your chat so you never miss them.

Can I track recurring expenses?

Yes. TallyMsg automatically detects recurring expenses such as monthly subscriptions or regular bills and flags them in your reports. Pro users get a dedicated Recurring tab that lists all detected recurring charges along with their frequency and last logged date.

Can I see spending reports and charts?

Yes. The TallyMsg web dashboard includes a Reports page with monthly spending totals, a daily breakdown chart, category percentages, merchant rankings, and month-over-month comparisons. Pro users also receive AI-generated spending insights and can export reports as a PDF.

Can I export my transaction data?

Starter and Pro users can export their full transaction history as a CSV file directly from the Reports page. Pro users can also generate a formatted PDF report. Both exports cover the selected month and include full details per transaction: date, amount, merchant, and category.

Privacy & Security

Is my financial data secure?

Yes. TallyMsg uses industry-standard encryption for all data in storage and in transit. We never ask for your bank account details, credit card numbers, or any financial credentials. We only process the expense messages you choose to send to the bot. Access to your data is restricted to authorised systems only.

Does TallyMsg read all my Telegram or WhatsApp messages?

No. TallyMsg only reads messages sent directly to TallyMsg Bot. It has no access to any other conversations, groups, or channels in your messaging account. You are in complete control of what you share with the bot.

What personal data does TallyMsg collect?

TallyMsg collects your name, email address, phone number, and the expense messages you send to the bot. We use this to identify your account, categorise your expenses, and generate your reports. We do not collect bank credentials, payment card details, or data from your other conversations. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can request account deletion by contacting privacy@tallymsg.app. All account data including your transaction history is permanently removed within 30 days. We recommend exporting your data first if you need a record, as this action cannot be undone.

Billing

Is there an annual billing option?

Yes. Annual billing saves you 17% compared to monthly. Starter costs $99.99/year and Pro costs $199.99/year. You can switch between monthly and annual at any time from the dashboard.

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

Yes. You can cancel from the dashboard at any time with no penalties. Your plan features remain active until the end of the current billing period. Nothing is cut off immediately.
